Everything You Need...On a Budget

  • Has your Holiday Havoc begun?

  • Making excuses already with goal setting, fitness, and self care?

  • Doubting your ability to finish strong this year?

  • What about 2024?

If you are feeling the overwhelm this holiday season and year's end, know that you aren't the only one!

  • Did you know that people eat 3x the amount of calories they are supposed to eat on Christmas? 7,000 calories!

  • More than 20% of people have a New Year's resolution to lose weight and get fit.

  • More than 80% of people fail at their New Year's goal to lose weight and get fit by February.

  • 2% is the amount of time in your day to invest in a 1 hour workout!!!

  • 90% of people state they gain weight over the last month of the year 1-12lbs.

  • 67% of people are stressed over the holidays (did you check out the Rugged Running Blog post on how to handle this? click

So you see, you aren't the only one! But how do we make a change this year that sticks?

First of all, don't get stuck in the same trap that you have been in year after year. Sit yourself down and ask yourself what will be needed in order to THRIVE!!!

Thrive Zone Ingredients!

  1. Spiritual Health

  2. Physical Health

  3. Mental Health

  4. Emotional Health

Directions to creating a thrive zone

Healthy habits and structure to our days allows for us to set ourselves up for success.

2 main aspects to establishing healthy habits and structure are:

1. Boundaries - these protect our time and energy but also our spirits! Boundaries provide space for grace, exercise, nutrition, sleep, and relaxation to help us live our best lives.

Boundaries are needed in many ways. People, places, things can all be soul suckers and those soul suckers are the reason we don’t have time and energy.

But ask yourself, are you creating healthy habits and structure to your day to avoid those soul suckers? Are you calling on God daily to achieve those goals?

God specifically tells us we must take care of ourselves, are you protecting your time and ENERGY to allow this?

2. Day Chunking

When we break things down into smaller goals, we realistically work our way up that mountain with baby steps to achieve the same larger goals. It is important to remember energy management NOT just time. We can squeeze more here and there with our timed schedules, but base your day off of realistic energy too!

For example: For the new year you may have had an overall large goal you want to achieve, yet looking ahead to that goal can be daunting. So in order to set yourself up for success you consider breaking the year down into quarters. Then taking each quarter and breaking down smaller goals within it that are much more manageable.

We then want to proceed with doing the same for our days. We can set a weekly goal, however, we want to set daily goals as well and we best “keep our daily bread” involved for the best success possible!

The CDA recommends:

150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise each week, along with two strength-training sessions. That's about 22 minutes of cardio a day (remember the above, 1 hour of our day is about 2%!!!)

Exercise isn't a luxury just to look good, God considers our physical health just as important as our spiritual health! Many have the impression that God is concerned only with the salvation of the soul, but this is a distortion.

His interest involves every aspect of our being. Regular exercise puts your body and soul — and their mysterious relationship— into a better position to clearly see and deeply savor who God is.

  1. What worked this past year?

  2. What did not work this past year (are you settling for things?)

  3. What changes do I need to make? Do I see where I could have done something differently this past year for a better outcome? (brainstorm/brain dump)

  4. What would the ideal outcome be? What would that look like 2024? Dream big!

  5. What are you willing to give up? (anything worth it, typically takes some sacrifice)

  6. What is non-negotiable? (coffee?)

  7. Who may I need for support? (nanny, friend, husband communication)

  8. How may I need support? (hire a house cleaner, cook, meal prep?)

  9. Where do I need to ask for support ( women's group?)

  10. How will I stay accountable (women's group, workout friend, goal keeper friend)

  11. Take a look at a previous week from this past year from your planner... what could you have changed/improved in order to have a better outcome? Do you see any ripple effects? negative or positive?
